Making sense out of massive data by going beyond differential expression
This paper suggests to characterize a specific phenotype in the context of broad transcriptomic landscapes. Because of the continuously growing amount of transcriptomic data, it becomes important to comprise the available full transcriptomic continuum.
The authors employed an approach making use of the multidimensional nature of gene expression data. They circumvent the need for defined controls and new samples are mapped to the transcriptomic landscape.
