A new editorial in Regenerative Medicine by Chris Mason et al. outlines the current perspective of cell therapy industry. The cell-based therapy is considered as the fourth and final therapeutic pillar of healthcare besides the established three pillars which are pharmaceuticals, biologics and medical devices. However, the necessary infrastructure for the cell therapy industry is not yet in place. Cell therapy industry requires core competencies in cells and tissue engineering to build this fourth pillar of healthcare.
